Well I am now living in the dorms at University of Ulsan in Ulsan, Gangnam province, South Korea.
I forgot to mention the last couple of blogs a cool thing I did while I was still in Suwon, near Seoul. I went to jimjilbong (spelling..I don't know), which is like a sauna/public bath place with workout equipment and mats to sleep on. You pay an entrance fee of like 7 bucks and you can stay for an hour or a day. It's like a cheap hotel. I chose to get a massage, which was a first for me. It was a cool time for me, definitely had never done anything like that.
More recently, I went to an English church service with a Philipino woman I met on campus (absolutely great gift!) and went to Ilsan Beach, on of Ulsan's few sandy beaches. Unfortunately it was rainy that day but it was beautiful weather to hike, which we did do. We hiked to go see an historic and scenic site near the beach. It's a rock that is an old king who turned into a dragon upon his death in order to guard the city. There are older people who dive or swim to get fresh seafoods and sell them on beach as well. It was a great time.
My first dorm experience is cool because I'm surrounded by not only Korean girls, but also Chinese, Vietnamese, and a Russian girl as well. I really love the diversity. I wouldn't trade my campus experience even though we do have less freedom I suppose. It might bother me if I was one to push boundaries but I find I'm pretty compliant generally. ; ) However, the bathrooms are less than ideal. But it's cool, I enjoy learning from every environment and situation, good or bad.
Today I met people at our elementary school (see picture). Wade and I will be teaching via a sort of skype setup. It 'll be interesting, no doubt about it. We love our school. We also got our settlement allowance and our second pieces of luggage, which is great. I went to my first university class today and was able to finally communicate with Koreans in Spanish, which was excellent.
About the pics: the beach one is at Ilsan beach and represents Ulsan well. Ulsan is a shipbuilding city and has a lot of industry. You meet lots of engineers and engineering students here, esp. nautical ones. The couple I'm with I met at that famous rock place. They were just super nice and he gave me his business card (oh guess what, another engineer!). The people on the couch are people at Tina and Roi's house, the people who invited me to English service. Under the umbrella on beach are fellow English teachers and Korean friends. The building is my school, Guyeong Elementary.
